Community Code of Conduct
An open and lively debate is a cornerstone of any community open source project, and Bumper is no exception to this.
But the Internet is a wild place. We come together from different cultures and different languages, as well as different levels of character XP and personal maturity. Our dialogue is highly compressed into monochrome text, where emojis and memes from anonymous avatars replace a human face with a human voice.
So, here are some more formalised community rules for our various public forums and chats for you to familiarise yourself with, so you're not too surprised if one of our leet moderators hoses you down.
Users should:
  • Expect and seek to engage in constructive discourse about the Bumper project and related topics.
  • Introduce themselves, and do a minimum of homework before asking others for answers or help.
  • Respect other comments and individuals – comments should not be malicious or offensive in nature, and should not constitute a personal attack on a person’s character.
  • Use English, unfortunately we can’t moderate comments in other languages
Users must not:
  • Spam the channel.
  • Be dishonest, disingenuous, or a nuisance.
  • Break the law (such as committing libel, harassment or breaching intellectual property rights) nor may users condone the illegal activity of others.
  • Make offensive remarks, such as swearing offensively or making comments that are malicious, abusive, violent, threatening, defamatory or obscene.
  • Post fraudulent, deceptive or misleading information.
  • Incite hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality or sexuality ,or other personal characteristics.
  • Advertise commercial products and services. Members can of course refer to relevant products and services in support of genuine discussion.
  • Impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or organisation.
  • Post messages that are unrelated to the topic of the original post, or channel.
  • ‘Flame-bait’ - in which the aim of the post is to provoke heated and emotional responses.
  • ‘Troll’ - in which the aim is to use off-topic, insulting or threatening remarks to upset another user or group of users.
  • Reveal personal details, private addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other identifiable information.
We reserve the right to:
  • Remove comments
  • Temporarily mute users or otherwise prevent them from posting
  • Change this policy at any time, with or without notice
Bumper’s administrative staff are here to support a positive and engaged community. The intent of this policy is not to enable Bumper admins to be authoritarian keyboard warriors; it’s here to keep things safe, civil and fair. Admins and other staff will enforce these rules, but will not ban or mute anyone unduly or censor you for posting comments we don’t like.
Oh, and if we share information from other websites and sources it doesn’t imply any kind of endorsement.

Banning Policy

We see banning or blocking a user as a last resort. FUD and aggressive behavior does not need to be tolerated, and we will generally mute or warn in the first instance. But for more serious breaches of this policy, such as if a user continually breaks the rules of conduct or is abusive, they will be banned, blocked and reported.
The following situations should result in an immediate ban:

    Scammers

Appealing Bans or Blocks

In most cases our moderators’ decisions are final. However, if you believe you have been mistakenly or unfairly banned or blocked, shoot an email over to [email protected] with all of the details so you can be heard and we can review what has occurred.
